Christian Piers, CU School of Dental Medicine student (class of 2016), was elected president of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) on Feb. 21. He will lead the association for the 2015-2016 term.

Piers is no stranger to ASDA leadership positions. An active member, Piers previously served as ASDA’s 2014-2015 editor-in-chief, ex-officio member of ASDA’s Board of Trustees and the Colorado ASDA chapter president. He is an ASDA liaison to the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Communications and a member of the ADA’s Subcommittee on Social and Digital Media. He is the sole student member of the CDA Board of Trustees, where he represents Colorado dental students’ perspectives on midlevel provider legislation, licensure reform and statewide expansion of Medicaid.

“We’re at an important crossroads for dentistry,” Piers said. “We look forward to partnering with leaders across the country to advocate for students, patients and the future of our profession.”

Prior to dental school, Piers earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction from Warren Wilson College. During his undergraduate career, he was president and founder of Greek Men Take a Stand, a group of 120 fraternity men working against sexual harassment and violence against women.
