With deepest sympathy, the CDA would like to note the passing of the following members of our dental community: Dr. Galen L. Callender, Dr. Robert Freeman and Dr. Barry Smialek.

Dr. Galen L. Callender, 88, of Lakewood, passed away Feb. 7, 2013 at the Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, CO.  He was an orthodontist in Arvada, Colo.  He received his dental degree in 1949 from the University of Kansas City.  Dr.  Callender is survived by his wife, Doris, and children, Janice and Galen.

Dr. Robert (Bob) Freeman, 88, of Denver, passed away in his home on Jan. 29, 2013.  He was an orthodontist in Denver, Colo.  He received his dental and orthodontic doctorate degrees at Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago in 1948 and 1951 respectively.  Dr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Jean, and his daughters, Anne, Susan, and Cathy.  He has nine grandchildren and one great grandson.

Dr. Barry Smialek, 56, of Littleton, passed away Jan. 31, 2013.  He was a general practitioner in Centennial, Colo. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy, as well as the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (1986).  He is survived by his siblings, Jay, Holly, and Caroline.
