Colorado Opioid Epidemic Symposium: Safe Opioid Prescribing for Dental Providers

Fulfill the one-hour opioid training requirement for your Colorado dental license with this free webinar. The course will talk about the basics of pain and pain treatment, and will look at opioids and their place in the treatment of dental pain. 

In addition, the new Nav 1.8 inhibitor (suzetrigine) will be briefly described and information provided about where it may fit in the treatment of dental pain. Lastly, this course will look at new studies that have come out over the past two years.

This learning opportunity is provided by the CDA in partnership with the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the relative effectiveness of common oral pain medications.
  • Identify the three main mechanisms of pain and their impact on acute and chronic pain.
  • Identify how our thoughts and emotions affect our pain experience.

Dr. Don Teater is a board certified family physician who has practiced medicine for over 30 years.  For the past 20 years his work has focused on treating acute and chronic pain and opioid use disorder. While working on the public health aspects of the opioid epidemic through public speaking and lobbying, he also works part-time as a pain and addiction specialist seeing Alaska Native patients with the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) and also with Ketchikan Indian Community in Southeast Alaska.
