In April, the CDA worked closely with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and Denver Water to provide education and materials regarding the immense benefits of community water fluoridation.
On April 13, an anti-fluoridation group called “We are Change Colorado” made a presentation opposing community water fluoridation to the Denver Board of Water Commissioners. They voiced their concerns about fluoridation but stated several inaccuracies.
On April 27, John Hanck, D.D.S.; CDA Executive Director Quinn Dufurrena, D.D.S., J.D.; and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer Chris Urbina, M.D., M.P.H. had an opportunity to present to the Denver Board of Water Commissioners on this same subject. This presentation outlined facts about cost, access-to-care and scientific research that supported the oral health benefits of community water fluoridation. The CDA will continue to provide updates on Denver Water’s position on this topic as information becomes available. Denver Water has actively supported community water fluoridation since the mid-1950s.
