The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has announced additional changes to its radiology (x-ray) regulations. Extensive changes to the rules were adopted in October 2009. Most of the new changes are non-substantive, grammatical corrections.
For dentistry, the notable change is in the “Part 2” language that will require annual inspections for volumetric dental imaging systems. Most dental x-ray equipment must be inspected every three years. An exception is made for portable handheld units, which must be inspected every year. The revision is intended to clarify the department’s existing policy for volumetric dental imaging systems.
