It is with great sadness that we report the unexpected passing of Dr. Jeanne M. Salcetti (August 22,1958 to July 26, 2020). She was the CDA’s first female president and the epitome of strength, courage, professionalism, and perseverance. She proved that anything was possible despite barriers and stereotypes.

In 2007, she broke the mold at the CDA, becoming the first female president of the then 121-year-old association. She held every governing office of the CDA prior to becoming president and served for multiple years on the association’s Government Relations Council. She has represented dentistry both at the state and national levels in the CDA House of Delegates and ADA House of Delegates, and has met with senators and representatives at the Colorado State Capitol and in Washington D.C.

Dr. Salcetti was a board-certified periodontist and had practiced in Colorado Springs since 1995, recently opening a brand-new practice location in April. Originally a dental hygienist, she completed her B.S. degree from the University of Maryland. She then joined the UM faculty for six years, first in the Department of Dental Hygiene and later in the Department of Periodontics. She then pursued her D.D.S. and graduated from the University of Maryland. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her periodontics residency where she received her certificate in periodontics and an M.S. degree in dentistry. Dr. Salcetti was a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Dr. Salcetti believed in giving back to the community and was a volunteer of the Colorado Mission of Mercy/COMOM. She was a mother of two adult children and beamed with love and pride anytime they came up in conversation. As an avid skier and runner, she loved the outdoors and dedicated her free time to her family and friends.

Dr. Salcetti’s passing has left a void in the hearts of her community. She leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire many.
