In late August, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment named Katya Mauritson, DMD, MPH(c), as the new director of its Oral Health Unit.
Dr. Katya Mauritson received her doctorate of dental medicine from the Tufts School of Dental Medicine and is currently pursuing her masters degree in public health with the Colorado School of Public Health. As a general dentist, Dr. Mauritson focused on delivering services to underserved pediatric and geriatric populations.
With a particular interest in oral health policies and preventive services, Dr. Mauritson is eager to work with partner agencies to further promote optimal oral health for Colorado. “Helping improve access to preventive care for all Coloradans is what drives me,” said Dr. Mauritson. She added, “the opportunity to work with the oral health experts and to be a part of the state’s Oral Health Unit is incredible.”
You can contact Dr. Mauritson at Katya.Mauritson@state.co.us, and follow the work of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Oral Health Unit in the Prevention Services Division at http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/pp/oralhealth/OralHealth.html.
On that Web page, you will find resources like the Colorado Oral Health Resource Guide, information for various dental assistance programs and data/publications. A major revision to the state’s health Website is in progress, so check back for additional resources and information in the future.
