If your dental practice is in the Denver metro area, Feb. 19, 2015, was the deadline to implement best management practices (BMPs) for placement, removal and disposal of dental amalgam. The BMPs are based on the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District’s (Metro District’s) new amalgam control requirements for dental offices in its service area. (Click here to see the cities and sanitation districts affected.)

Under the new requirements, once BMPs have been implemented and amalgam separators have been installed in a dental office, the office will need to submit certification forms to let the Metro District know the requirements have been met. Exemptions from these requirements are available for dental offices that never place or remove amalgam or teeth containing amalgam.

Once your dental office has met the BMPs, also keep Aug. 19, 2015, in mind. That’s the date your dental office is required to install amalgam separators.
