The Environmental Leadership Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recently expanded to recognize practices within the dental community.  Three dental offices will be recognized by the governor as Bronze Achievers for their sustainable practices at a banquet in early September:

• CDA member Dr. Heidi Winquist of Heidi Winquist, DDS, PC;
• CDA members Dr. F. Robert Murphy, Dr. Paul Sica, Dr. Julie Ann Brown and Dr. David Welden of the North Boulder Dental Group; and
• Shelby Kahl, R.D.H., P.C.

These are the first members of the dental community to be recognized in the state as environmental leaders. For examples of activities that the program may recognize, click here.  The program is not limited to these examples, instead encouraging practices set an example by doing something innovative that goes “above and beyond” to minimize their environmental impact.

Benefits of the program include:
• Award and logo use
• Public recognition
• Mentoring and networking opportunities

If you are interested in pursuing this distinction for your office, please contact Patricia Nickell, M.P.H., R.D.H., Oral Health Unit program coordinator, at tricia.nickell@state.co.us or 303-692-3652, or visit http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/oeis/elp/index.html.
