Scam Targeting Dental Licensees

Molly PereiraFeatured News

Another round of fraud attempts are targeting dental licensees in Colorado. This is a scam. Please do not engage with this communication or exchange any funds.

The CDA has received multiple reports this week from dentists who have received a phone call from someone impersonating DORA indicating that the dentist’s license is suspended and being investigated by the FBI and Department of Justice for drug trafficking activity. The caller then asks for thousands of dollars to reinstate the license.

This call is followed up with a letter (by fax or mail) appearing to be from the state reinforcing the message. In some cases a U.S. Department of Justice “Federal Bond and Protocol Agreement” is also sent.

Below is an example of the fake DORA letter. Please make your front desk aware of this scam and protect yourself against this fraudulent activity.

Dental recipients of these communications are welcome to contact the Colorado Dental Board or access the online license lookup to see if their license has, in fact, changed to a restricted status. DORA has also sent a provider bulletin out warning licensees of this scam.
