Medicaid Rates Lowered Due to Budget Shortfall, But Not All News is Bad

Gov. Polis implemented targeted cuts to Medicaid provider rates to address a massive state budget shortfall. There are 25 dental codes affected by these cuts.

The state department of Health Care Policy & Financing recently shared the new rates for these 25 codes, which will start Oct. 1. While each impacted dental code received an effective cut of 16.8%, every impacted code remains well above the 2023 Medicaid rates. We are disappointed to lose some of the increased rates that CDA advocated for and achieved last year, however, we have worked to preserve as much as possible given the $800 million state budget shortfall.

As an example, endodontic codes D3310, D3320, and D3330 will still receive a rate that is nearly twice as much as they had been in 2023. Crown codes D2740, D2750, and D2790 are nearly 50% above their 2023 rates. All updated rates, effective Oct. 1, can be found in the table below, along with comparison to the rates as they had been in 2023.
