Proposed Small Fee Increase for Colorado’s Radiation Control Program

Becky O'GuinFeatured News

The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) is proposing a small increase to the fees charged for their radiation control program, including licensing fees, registration fees, hourly rates, application review fees and other fees. The CDPHE Radiation Control Program provides oversight, licensing, and inspection of medical, industrial, and other facilities that possess, use, and dispose of radioactive materials. The proposed changes to fees will impact any facilities, companies, or individuals that pay a fee to the department for radiation control services.

The program has not increased its fees since 2015. If adopted, beginning March 17, 2026, the proposed change includes an across the board fee increase of 2.3%, consistent with the annual percent change in the 2024 Consumer Price Index (CPI) value. CDPHE is also proposing an annual CPI-based fee change that would begin July 1, 2027. More details on this proposal can be found here.

CPDHE is accepting comments about these proposed fee changes through August 29, 2025. CDA is tracking this issue and would like to hear any feedback members may have, so that we can provide comment to CDPHE if needed.
