The CDA extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family of University of North Carolina dental student, Deah Shaddy Barakat, and his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and sister in law, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, who were shot and killed Feb. 10 in an apartment close to the school.

“These tragic and senseless murders have a profound effect on not only the victims’ family and the university but also the dental community as a whole,” said Dr. Brett Kessler, CDA president. “On behalf of the Colorado dental community, our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they try to cope after experiencing such unfathomable loss.”

Barakat was a second-year student at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry and a member of the American Student Dental Association. Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha was accepted into the school of dentistry’s 2019 incoming class.
