This week, dentist representatives from the Colorado chapters of dental specialty organizations met to discuss ongoing activities and policy priorities. Endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry and general dentistry were each represented.
We believe it beneficial to coordinate our messages and agendas whenever possible. We had an engaging discussion of dental-related legislation currently in the statehouse (including the bill to prohibit insurers from setting fees on non-covered services), the trajectory of the dental profession, the dental Medicaid program, mid-level providers and more. The orthodontists asked for letters of support in extending a high school athletic policy requiring mouthguards to additional sporting events, including soccer and basketball (mouthguards are already required for football, hockey and wrestling).
