Reports to: Director of Dental Hygiene Programs │Hours: Full Time – Salary – $64-68K, Exempt (32-40 hours/week)
POSITION SUMMARY
Under minimal to moderate supervision, the Dental Hygienist is responsible for representing KIND in various service location settings to patients, families, and partners, by providing dental hygiene services, program promotion, and administrative support. The dental hygienist will serve alongside clinical providers to provide high-quality, mission-driven services, treatment, and education, with efficiency and the highest regard for safeguarding supporting resources. In addition to clinical work, the Dental Hygienist will be responsible for the coordination and program promotion of KIND’s school-based mobile sealant program, Chopper Topper, including administrative preparedness and coordination, professional patient communications, and Increasing program participation through program marketing and relationship-building strategies.
The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English and Spanish, and experienced in dental hygiene, with a background in public health/mission-driven health care; enjoys working in varied settings over a given week.

GOALS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Goal: Complete dental hygiene functions of KIND’s programs, as assigned, in collaboration with various department providers; provide high-quality, mission-driven services with efficiency and the highest regard for safeguarding supporting resources and KIND’s missional goals as effectively as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Set up clinic; Chopper Topper School, Hygiene Clinic Days, School-based health center (SBHC), off-site screenings.
- Perform lab responsibilities including sterilization/ instrument set up, patient tray, and operatory set up.
- Determine patient x-rays, and appointment needs in appointment set-up and scheduling.
- Assist the Chopper Topper team in schools when needed.
- Complete patient forms; charting and referrals.
- Set up and clean up patient rooms before/after visits.
- Service site breakdown in the clinic and school-based locations, including restocking, end-of-day sterilization, and equipment care and maintenance.
- Coordinate/plan with clinic hygiene days.
- Check the eligibility of Medicaid patients.
- Assemble consent packets for Chopper Topper program patients.
- Update Dental hygiene program paperwork as needed.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
Goal: Provide positive, exceptional, and unique interactions and experiences that result in strong patient family, student, and school administration relationships and mission-driven care and service.
Responsibilities:
Communication:
- Acknowledge patients, school administration, and parents in a friendly cheerful manner.
- Call/reach out to school administration weekly.
Patient Visit Preparation and Coordination:
- Verify the patient’s appointment and eligibility/benefit/insurance information –
- Update chart and computer database; records and referrals
- Recognize all resources to coordinate conflict resolution regarding individual or special patient needs.
- Confirm the accuracy of transactions and submit insurance claims electronically (Medicaid, CHP, etc) –
- Responsible for maintenance of all charts utilized by you daily.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Organizational Learning and Teamwork:
Goal: Provide positive collaborative interaction with the entire KIND team that results in organization-wide teamwork and learning toward mission-driven care and service.
- Attend and participate regularly in required KIND team meetings and retreats, Chopper Topper team meetings, KIND events and fundraisers, and partner training with multiple learning opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates possess a strong commitment to KIND’s mission and missional goals, and the ability to work collaboratively, effectively, and efficiently with a diverse coalition of team members, patient families, and community partners.
- Bilingual (fluent in both English-Spanish).
- Commitment to the mission and vision of KIND.
- At least one (1) year experience in dental hygiene.
- Effective problem-solving and customer service skills, including demonstrated skills in successful conflict resolution.
- Background in dental office or administration, and/or non-profit or public health preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must possess the ability to express assertiveness and confidence.
- Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment.
- Ability to work effectively with groups and individuals that represent a variety of needs, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and educational and early childhood philosophies.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to write reports and emails.
- Solid time-management skills and ability to manage multiple activities, including deadlines, alignment of activities to the organization’s strategic vision, and communication of progress and outcomes.
- Willingness to think innovatively, flexibly, and open to change and feedback.
- Ability to represent KIND with a neat and professional appearance, and project a positive attitude at all times.
Physical requirements and working conditions:
- Ability to work in multiple settings with multiple organizations.
- Use the computer for periods of time.
- Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for periods of up to three hours.
- Ability to lift/push/pull/carry various objects of 30 -40 pounds.
- Ability to reach shoulder level and above.
- Ability to bend at the hips and knees.
- Drive various distances in all types of weather conditions.
