Dentistry Loses Longtime Leader Dr. Richard Zallen

zallenDr. Richard Zallen died Nov. 24, 2016. He was 81 years old. Dr. Zallen had a long and distinguished career as a dentist, an oral surgeon and an educator in Colorado.

Dr. Zallen attended Syracuse University in New York as an undergraduate and graduated from the New York University School of Dentistry in 1961. He then obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical College in New York in 1966 and completed training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He subsequently served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1972, with a tour in Vietnam.

Dr. Zallen joined the staff at Denver Health (then Denver General Hospital) in July of 1971 and remained the leader of the dental services at Denver Health until November 2012. He oversaw the general practice dentistry program and the oral surgery training program, educating many of Colorado’s dentists and oral surgeons. He was a faculty member of the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. He was an active member of and contributor to the Colorado Dental Association.
