Emergency Rules Adopted, which temporarily expand scope of practice.

Read Dental Emergency Rule (CCR 709-1).

Emergency rules for numerous healthcare professions were adopted on Jan. 11 for the expansion of scope of practice regarding the administration of the COVID-19 vaccination. The rule changes apply to inpatient, outpatient and hospital settings under certain delegation.

These changes were triggered by Executive Order D 2021 008, signed last week by Gov. Jared Polis.

Several professions are affected by this scope expansion including dental (CCR 709-1).

If interested, dentists should reach out to their county public health departments and hospitals* to inquire of any volunteer opportunities or needs within their communities for vaccine administration. As the CDA becomes aware of these volunteer opportunities, we will let you know.

*Please note that this rule only applies to vaccine administration in hospitals, inpatient medical facilities, including emergency departments, and outpatient settings under the authority of a medical provider.
