What started out as an idea to create a mentoring program for dentists came to fruition Aug. 29, when the CDA held its first-ever Connect the Docs program. Dr. Lindsay Compton and Dr. Brett Kessler, who conceived the program, served as moderators. Almost 40 dentists, who attended in person or via video streaming, participated in roundtable discussions that allowed veteran dentists to share their lessons learned and new dentists to get answers to questions that will help them as they build their practices.

To start the program, attendees watched “The Real Difference Between Success and Winning,” a TED talk by the legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden about his theory of success. Attendees used this TED talk to fuel conversation that benefited seasoned and new dentists alike.

“The first Connect the Docs meeting was fun!” said Dr. Compton. “I thought it was amazing that so many talented dentists shared their time to gather and learn. I’m hoping this helped the dentists, who attended in person and via live-streaming, to connect and get excited about their practices and develop as leaders.”

Because the first Connect the Docs was so successful, the CDA has scheduled the second program on Friday, Dec. 4. As the date approaches, the CDA will send information to members via future issues of the eNews, CDAonline.org and social media so those interested can learn more and register.
