If you don’t take care of your teeth, you can find yourself in deep trouble. While uninsured, I got a series of painful dental abscesses, which if untreated can have major health consequences. But, without dental coverage I couldn’t afford to get the treatment I needed, so they went untreated and the pain only increased.

In 2014, I became eligible for Medicaid, and quickly enrolled in the program. The dental coverage I gained under Medicaid made it possible for me to finally treat my abscesses. The treatment was pretty straightforward, and concluded with the dentist placing a crown on my tooth to protect it and restore it to full function.

I’m extremely thankful for my health and dental coverage. They are critical in helping me afford the care I need, and also help me better serve the non-profit I co-founded in Boulder!
