The use of teledentistry is growing here and across the U.S.  At the end of January, legislation passed in California (73-1) promoting teledentistry and making it reimbursable through Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. Teledentistry has gained interest across a number of states. Teledental platforms may present treatment options to a new and underserved patient base.  These developments have led more dentists to consider teledental options for their own offices and now legislatures are following their lead.

In Colorado, dentists are piloting teledental software called OralEye in their offices to both increase access-to-care and extend the reach of their marketing efforts to recruit new patients. OralEye offers a patient-focused smartphone application and a Web-based assessment platform for the dentist, reducing the need for capital expense and new technology in the dental office.
