I didn’t have a dentist until just a few years ago. My oral health is important to me, but with no access to an affordable dental plan, I had gone without dental care since I was 18. In that time, my teeth became so sensitive that I struggled to drink and eat many things.

I didn’t have a dentist until just a few years ago. My oral health is important to me, but with no access to an affordable dental plan, I had gone without dental care since I was 18. In that time, my teeth became so sensitive that I struggled to drink and eat many things.

In 2014, I applied for Medicaid because I was pregnant. I was able to stay on the program after my son was born thanks to the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. With Medicaid’s dental benefit, I could finally begin to afford to take care of my teeth.

Teeth are a big part of your health. They impact your heart and body, too. Healthy teeth lead to better health during pregnancy and after. I’m thankful that Medicaid enables me to take care of my teeth. Because oral health is so critical, I’d like to see Medicaid dental coverage become even more robust in the future.
