The state Medicaid program has scheduled a second orthodontic stakeholder retreat for Wednesday, April 11, 2012, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the first floor conference room at 225 E. 16th Ave., Denver, CO 80203. Medicaid has reached out to engage stakeholders in this process, and we encourage CDA members to participate and provide input.

Minutes from the first orthodontic stakeholders meeting in December 2011 can be accessed here.

At the December meeting, representatives of the state Medicaid dental program provided history on why the orthodontic benefit was selected for review, including the transfer of the orthodontic program management from one Medicaid division to another, a high per capita volume of appeals for the benefit, and a request from the broader dental stakeholders group for review. Participants in the meeting then discussed options for restructuring orthodontic payment practices and identification of defined orthodontic scoring criteria, specifically the HLD Cal-Mod protocol. A detailed review of the December meeting is available here.

To participate in the April stakeholders meeting, please RSVP to the Colorado Medicaid Benefits Collaborative at 303-866-3510 or sheeba.ibidunni@state.co.us. Please indicate that you will be attending the Orthodontic Stakeholders meeting.
