Just this week, the Denver City Council passed a policy that would end the sale of flavored tobacco products in the city and county of Denver. The bill, 24-1765, passed a final vote at City Council at their Dec. 16 meeting, with 11 council members in favor and one opposed. The bill will now go to Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, who has indicated support of the measure. CDA joined a coalition of dozens of health-related organizations and advocates in support of this proposed policy, as these flavored tobacco products are often an introduction to tobacco for children, and can lead to a lifelong addiction for children and adults alike. CDA sent a letter of support for the policy to Denver City Council members, noting the well-documented data on negative health outcomes for oral health and overall health, of tobacco use. More information on this proposed policy can be found the Denver City Council’s website.
