Denver Area Dental Practices Must Have Amalgam Separators Installed by Aug. 19

Denver area dental practices served by the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (Metro District) must install amalgam separators by Aug. 19, 2015, to comply with new amalgam control requirements. (Click here to see the cities and sanitation districts affected.) Once an amalgam separator has been installed in your dental office, you will need to submit a certification form to let the Metro District know these requirements have been met. Best management practices (BMPs) for placement, removal and disposal of dental amalgam should have been implemented and reported to the Metro District via a certification form by Feb. 19, 2015. Exemptions from these requirements are available for dental offices that never place or remove amalgam or teeth containing amalgam.

Denver Water to Consider Discontinuing Fluoridation - Vote Occurs Next Month

On July 29, the Denver Board of Water Commissioners held a meeting to review the latest information and science surrounding community water fluoridation, which has been provided to the community since 1953. After hearing from both proponents and opponents of fluoridation, the board announced that it will accept written public comments until Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015. The board will vote in late August to change or retain its current fluoridation policy. We need your help!

Medicaid Dental Fee Increases Take Effect July 1

During the 2015-2016 state budget process, the CDA worked hard to secure an across-the-board rate increase and a targeted rate increase for the Colorado Medicaid Dental Program fee schedule. Thanks to some hard work by the Medicaid Dental Program, the increase just received federal approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the increases will be effective and implemented in real time July 1, 2015. There will not be any implementation delay or retroactive adjustments associated with this rate increase--which is great news for dental offices.

Your Feedback Can Help Improve the Healthcare Professions Profile Program

The Office of Policy, Research and Regulatory Reform (OPRRR) within the Department of Regulatory Agencies is in the process of conducting a sunset review of the Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO). OPRRR invites dentists to participate in a survey to determine, among other things, the effectiveness of the DPO. The survey focuses on the healthcare professions profile dentists and others in the healthcare field are required to submit as part of the licensure renewal process.
