The State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE) is revising its regulations on licensure for dentists and dental hygienists. Major changes to the rule include:

  • Clarifying that financial responsibility (liability coverage) requirements apply to dental hygienists (unless they are covered under a dentist’s policy),
  • Consolidating all licensing rules into one section for ease of reference,
  • Adding limited recognition for training received in the military, and
  • Renumbering rules due to consolidation of the licensure provisions.

A copy of the proposed rule revision can be accessed by clicking here. The SBDE will conduct a rule hearing on the proposed revisions on Wednesday, Nov. 2 starting at 1:00 p.m.

The CDA has reviewed the proposed rule revisions and will submit comments to the SBDE requesting clarification of temporary license types and asking the Board to maintain the current rule number for Rule X (radiology regulations), due to its prominence.

If you have any further comments or concerns about the rule revisions, or would like additional details about the SBDE hearing, please contact Jennifer Goodrum at jennifer@cdaonline.org or 303-996-2847.
