Gov. John Hickenlooper signed H.B. 1309 into law in June. The act allows dental hygienists to perform interim therapeutic restorations (ITRs), subject to certain training, experience and supervision requirements. Dentists who would like to implement the virtual dental home model, including utilizing dental hygienists to place ITRs in appropriate circumstances, might be eligible for grant funding from the Caring for Colorado Foundation.

The SMILES Dental Home Planning Grant requires interested dentists to submit grant applications by July 1, 2015. To complete the submission process, dentists will need to attach a proposal narrative, a project plan, budget details and financial documents to their online application.
