General Practitioners
Treating Kids (GPs4Kids)

Are you looking for a comprehensive and relevant update in pediatric dentistry? The Colorado Dental Association presents "General Practitioners Treating Kids (GPs4Kids)"
This seminar is for general dentists who want to enhance their knowledge and skills to provide efficient treatment and cost-effective therapy to children in their practices. Dealing with the behavior of a young and sometimes frightened child is challenging. Our presenters, all practicing pediatric dentists, will introduce you to dental care for infants, children and young people through adolescence.

During this seminar you will learn how to:

  • Assess a child's caries risk and treatment plan accordingly.
  • Diagnose and manage developing malocclusion in the primary and early mixed dentition.
  • Manage premature tooth loss.
  • Select the best restorative option and material, all things considered.
  • Assess and manage traumatic injuries in the primary and mixed dentition.
  • Reduce fear and anxiety, and provide pain control for the young patient.
  • Manage behaviorally challenging children and their parents.
  • Determine when to treat in your practice and when to refer.

The Colorado Dental Association is an ADA CERP recognized provider.  ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.  ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry.  The Colorado Dental Association designates this activity for three continuing education credits.

Low-Cost Dentistry

The Colorado Dental Association supports Colorado dental charities and non-profit dental clinics throughout the state. These organizations offer dental care on a sliding fee scale to individuals who are unable to afford treatment. Several of these organizations have financial and residency requirements. Others are established to help a certain portion of the population (i.e. children, the homeless, people with disabilities, etc.).

In addition, the CDA hosts charitable dental programs to help both children and adults. Colorado dental professionals are constantly giving back to their communities and have given millions of dollars in donated dental services through these charitable programs.

Give Kids a Smile Day is a day of free dental treatment and education for kids. This program takes place on the first Friday of February each year.  Dental volunteers from across Colorado donate their time to help children without dental insurance or the ability to afford dental care. Children must have an appointment in advance to receive free care.

Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) is a 100-chair portable dental clinic that travels to different areas of the state. This annual clinic provides two days of free dental treatment to adults and children.

Colorado Donated Dental Services (DDS) provides pro bono, comprehensive dental treatment to our country’s most vulnerable people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile. These are people who cannot afford necessary treatment and cannot get public aid. The program operates through a volunteer network of more than 730 dentists and 170 dental labs across the state. Since its inception in 1985, our DDS program has surpassed $29 million in donated dental therapies, transforming the lives of over 11,900 people.
