NFDH Changes its Brand and Name

In December, the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped will launch its new brand and name:  Dental Lifeline Network.  The name just received final trademark approval and was officially announced at the opening of the American Dental Association Annual Session last month.  The Donated Dental Services (DDS) and DentaCheques program names remain unchanged.  The foundation provides dental care to disabled, elderly and medically at-risk patients.  It has over 15,000 volunteer dentists and 3,000 laboratories, providing care in all 50 states.  It was established 35 years ago and is headquartered in Denver, Colo.

Proposed Medicaid Payment Delays

The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing is expected to implement another delay in the payment of Medicaid claims in the spring 2011.  To help address a substantial budget shortfall in the current fiscal year (2010-2011), Medicaid has proposed delaying the payment of claims for one week in April 2011, one week in May 2011 and one week in June 2011, resulting in a cumulative three-week delay of payments by the end of the current fiscal year.

Colorado Heart Rescue

Meet the CDA’s Newest Endorsed Company:  The CDA just endorsed Colorado Heart Rescue as a resource for Automated External Defibrillators (AED).  The Colorado State Board of Dental Examiner’s anesthesia rule requires an AED for any dental office providing any permitted level of sedation – minimal, moderate, deep and general anesthesia (although voluntary installation is encouraged in all offices regardless of whether they offer permitted sedation services).

Members in the News Drs Gillis Weenig Perino Kessler

On Sept. 25, KJCT Channel 8 reported that an estimated 200 people in Grand Junction got a free appointment with one of three local dentists. Dr. Julie Gillis, Dr. Duane Weenig and Dr. Kenneth Perino teamed up to hold a free clinic for people who couldn’t afford dental care. Patients received treatments ranging from cleanings and cancer screenings to fillings and extractions.

Dinner Dancing and Dental Aid

Don’t miss the “Black & White and Smiles All Over” event on Saturday, Nov. 13 to benefit Dental Aid, a not-for-profit dental provider with three clinics in Boulder County.  The evening honors Karen Cody Carlson for her longtime service to the community and dental profession.  The event will also have cocktails, dinner, a live auction, the Hazel Miller Band and dancing.  The event takes place at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colo.
