Updates for Medicaid Providers – Study Casts, Web Portal Claims Submissions, Billable Hygiene Codes

Colorado Medicaid recently published provider updates, which included several dental-specific changes. Medicaid clarified that no dental provider (including orthodontists) should submit diagnostic models or study casts with claims or prior authorization requests, unless specifically requested by the Medicaid program.

February 2011 Members Spotlight

Dr. Tom Pixley recently represented the CDA at the American Dental Association.
Kids in Need of Dentistry (KIND) is one of 10 finalists for the Toms of Maine Grant for Mobile Dental Health.  The winners are decided by public vote online.

On Feb. 4, 2011, dentists across the state volunteered for Give Kids a Smile Day, a national access-to-care day for underserved children.  Thank you to the hundreds of Colorado volunteers who made this year’s program a success!  Your volunteer time and support of this annual program is greatly appreciated.

Oral Health Screenings at the 2011 National Western Stock Show

The Colorado Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus hosted a booth at the January 2011 National Western Stock Show in Denver, offering free health screenings to all 644,000 attendees.  Health screenings at the stock show have been an ongoing project for Colorado AHEC.  2011 represents the fifth year of providing this valuable service to the public.

Red Flags Legislation Signed by President Obama

In late December, President Obama signed and passed legislation exempting certain businesses, including dental practices, from the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Red Flags Rule.  In a measure to protect the public, the FTC and federal financial institution regulatory agencies established the "Red Flags Rule," which would require certain businesses to develop and implement a written identity theft prevention program to combat identity theft in new and existing customer/patient accounts.
