At the Nov. 2 meeting of the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners, one topic of debate was whether dental hygienists in Colorado should be required to carry liability insurance separate from the dental practice policy.

Medicaid Revises Orthodontic Rule

The Board of Directors that oversees Medicaid met on Oct. 8 to consider changes to the rule governing orthodontic services provided to Medicaid patients. Several dentists attended the hearing and commented about the importance of these services. They also commented that the rule as written seemed too vague and asked for further clarification of the acceptance criteria for orthodontic cases.

Register for Give Kids a Smile Day!

gkas08-250Kids back in school and the end of the year means that it’s time to register for Give Kids a Smile Day (GKAS).  Please register to help kids in need through the ADA’s 10th annual GKAS program.  GKAS is a day of free treatment and education for children without access to dental care.  Please join us by volunteering to treat children at a nearby clinic, treat children in your private office or by providing educational presentations.  As in years past, the CDA can help you with patient recruitment, educational presentations or finding a clinic to volunteer at for GKAS. 

Dr Ken Versman - Newly Elected ADA 2nd Vice President

On Oct. 13, Dr. Ken Versman, a CDA past president and periodontist in Aurora, Colo., was elected as the new American Dental Association Second Vice President.  Dr. Versman was elected at the ADA House of Delegates meeting in Las Vegas, NV in conjunction with the ADA Annual Session.

COMOM Gives Brush, CO Something to Smile About

Thank you to all of the dentists, dental professionals and community volunteers who donated their time Oct. 20-23, 2011 for the fifth annual Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM).  More than 1,300 adults and children, who could not afford dental care, were provided with free treatment and education through this program.
