Don’t be a Victim of Doctor Shopping

Doctor shopping by patients seeking pain relief/controlled substances happens every day across the country. Recently, it’s even hit close to home, with several Boulder area dentists unknowingly writing prescriptions for these types of drugs to the same patient within a couple-week time period. Despite its prevalence, this scenario can be prevented in Colorado with the state’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

Medicaid Dental Benefit Enhanced

The implementation of the full adult dental benefit for Colorado Medicaid beneficiaries has had its share of hiccups, but there’s some good news to share. DentaQuest, the program’s administrator, and Medicaid have listened to dental professionals’ feedback and made some much-needed adjustments—including adding new benefits to the program and reducing prior authorization requests, extending provider participation incentives, and rolling out a new office reference manual.

In The Denver Post’s inaugural Strength in Health Award program, two CDA member dentists received the Dental Excellence in Healthcare Award. On Jan. 14, Dr. Brett Kessler, CDA president, was presented with the award as a general dentist, and Dr. Doug Heller was recognized as a specialist.

CDA Offers Condolences to Family of Murdered Dental Student

The CDA extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family of University of North Carolina dental student, Deah Shaddy Barakat, and his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and sister in law, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, who were shot and killed Feb. 10 in an apartment close to the school.

Have You Implemented Amalgam BMPs for Your Denver-Area Practice?

The BMPs are based on the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District’s (Metro District’s) new amalgam control requirements for dental offices in its service area. Dental Board Sunset Review Rulemaking – Anesthesia Rules

February 23, 2015

The Colorado Dental Board scheduled a follow up rulemaking hearing on the anesthesia rules for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at 1560 Broadway, Denver, CO 80202 (Conference Room 110D). The final rule draft may be viewed here. There will be an opportunity to provide testimony and/or written comments on the proposed rules during this formal rulemaking hearing.

Important Dental Office Tax Credits

December 19, 2014

Congress just passed H.R. 5771, the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014, which has extended the Section 179 expensing tax provision for this year. These Section 179 tax provisions allow dental practices to deduct up to $500,000 for investments in new equipment and property, phasing out for investments exceeding $2M.

Medicaid Dental Director Job Opening
