Welcome New CDA Members

The CDA would like to introduce its newest members. 177 dentists have joined from 10 different components. The CDA welcomes these members and congratulates them for their choice to join organized dentistry.

One year ago this month, the CDA launched the New Dentist Committee. This committee has been active hosting several professional and social events over the past year. The next NDC event will be in conjunction with the CDA Annual Session in Crested Butte, Colo. on Friday, June 11 at the Brick Oven Pizza and Bar. ADA Opposes Healthcare Reform Bill

This past Sunday, March 21, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve legislation to overhaul the nation’s healthcare system. The House approved the Senate’s version of healthcare reform with a 219-212 vote. President Obama signed the initial bill into law on Tuesday, March 23. For a quick synopsis of the bill’s main provisions, click here. The majority of the bill’s provisions do not take effect until 2014 and, accordingly, there may be substantial adaptations prior to that date.

CE Requirement Reminder

March 26, 2010

A CDA House of Delegates resolution went into effect on Jan. 1, 2010, requiring that members complete 15 hours of CE per year with at least eight of those hours designated to enhance dental clinical skills and/or procedures. These hours are to be obtained through American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (CERP) courses, Academy of General Dentistry Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) courses or American Medical Association Category One continuing medical education courses.

Take Action: Ask Your Senators to Support a Bill to Repeal Insurance Anti-Trust Exemption

On Feb. 24, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed HR4626, Colorado Rep. Betsy Markey’s bill that would enact a full repeal of the antitrust exemptions in place for the insurance industry.

Currently, the exemption allows health insurance companies to work jointly to set rates without fear of federal antitrust scrutiny.

Deadline to Renew: Feb. 28, 2010

All dentist and dental hygienist licenses expire on Feb. 28, 2010. You must have an active license in order to practice dentistry or dental hygiene in Colorado. It is also the responsibility of all supervising dentists who have licensed personnel operating in their practices to make sure that each licensed employee has an active license.

Take Action: Support Federal Bill to Repeal Insurance Anti-Trust Exemption

Colorado Rep. Betsy Markey is leading the way in encouraging the U.S. Congress to repeal an insurance industry exemption from federal antitrust laws. Currently, the exemption allows health insurance companies to work jointly to set rates without fear of federal antitrust scrutiny. When this type of behavior is allowed, consumers are hurt by a reduction in innovation and variety in the marketplace, compared to what would be offered in an atmosphere of robust competition between insurance providers.

City of Centennial Sales Tax Update

February 23, 2010

The CDA continues to act on behalf of Centennial dentists regarding the issue of charging sales tax on items sold in dental offices within the City of Centennial.

The CDA attorney suggests that practices located within the City of Centennial that have a current Centennial Sales Tax License file an annual return, even if the practice does not have retail sales to report for the period.
