Write Congress in Support of Federal Non Covered Services Bill

The ADA is backing a federal bill to stop dental benefit plans from dictating rates that dentists must charge for services not covered under a patient’s plan. 

H.R. 5000 would stop this practice at the national level and would apply to all ERISA or employer self-insured plans. Other provisions in the bill address coordination of benefits, assignment of benefits, downcoding by insurers, equal payment for participating and non participating providers, and other related insurer practices.

Taxes 101: Does Your Practice Qualify for a Payroll Tax Exemption?

Two new tax benefits are available to employers hiring employees who were previously unemployed or only working part-time.  In order to encourage employers to hire unemployed workers, President Obama signed the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act on March 18.  The HIRE Act allows an exemption on the employer paid portion of social security payroll taxes (6.2%) for wages paid to new hires after March 18, 2010 and before January 1, 2011.

PCI Compliance Alert

Some CDA members have received questionable information regarding PCI (Payment Card Industry) credit card processing compliance from various sources.  PCI compliance concerns the security of credit card information. For example, if you currently use a terminal to swipe credit cards, the terminal must be updated so both the merchant and customer copy of the receipt are truncated to show only the last four digits of the credit card number (not the entire card number).

Project Homeless a Huge Success

June 10, 2010

On May 22, 114 individuals from Denver’s homeless community received 222 extractions and 34 fillings at no charge by over 80 volunteer dentists and dental professionals.  This effort was held in conjunction with Project Homeless, a program organized by Denver’s Road Home (Mayor Hickenlooper’s approved 10-year plan to end homelessness).  Henry Schein Dental orchestrated the dental clinic, which generated $44,040 in donated dental care in just five short hours.
