CDA House of Delegates to Consider 2011-2012 Budget

 May 5, 2011

On June 10, the CDA’s governing body, the House of Delegates, will consider the 2011-2012 budget (Resolution 04-11-B) in addition to several other resolutions.  Associated resolution 05-11-B will impact the proposed budget as it calls for a 5% dues increase each year for a period of three consecutive years.  Upon approval of these resolutions, the 2012 dues of the CDA will increase $16 for active members. The CDA works hard to maintain a budget with limited financial impact on members.  This increase was proposed so we can continue to offer high quality member services to benefit our dentists.

Bill Exempts Dentists from 1099 Business Tax Reporting Requirements

April 14, 2011

On April 14, President Obama signed a bill to exempt small businesses from burdensome 1099 tax reporting requirements. Before this bill passed, small businesses would have been required to issue a 1099 tax form to all vendors that were paid $600 or more during a year, creating hundreds of pages of new paperwork in each dental office. The American Dental Association partnered with other small business groups to pursue an exemption from this requirement. This exemption is great news for dentists!

Annual Session Registration Available Online

April 6, 2011

Don't miss the CDA Annual Session!
June 9-12, 2011
Snowmass, CO

This weekend has something for everyone:

CE: Several courses are available including Dr. Roger Wise speaking on a "Multidisciplinary Approach to the Management of Dental Alveolar Trauma."

House of Delegates: This annual business meeting of the CDA is thrilled to welcome a keynote address by American Dental Association President Dr. Raymond Gist.

Live Entertainment: Vocal rock band, Face, will be performing a cappella style on Saturday night.  Using just five voices and a vocal drummer, or "beat-boxer," Face creates a rock-music phenomenon that has to be seen to be believed. No other instruments or special effects - just six guys.  They most recently appeared on season one of NBC's a cappella competition, "The Sing Off."

Recreation: When not in class, the weekend also features yoga courses, a beading/jewelry-making class, a guided mountain bike ride, the golf tournament and many other outdoor activities.

And of course attendees and families won't want to miss the brand new "mammoth" exhibit in Snowmass. Recently, crews in Snowmass have recovered the parts of eight to 10 American mastodons, four Columbian mammoths, and several other animals, insects, and plant matter representing several different Ice Age ecosystems.  Scientists consider the find to be one of the most significant in Colorado history.

Watch for your April issue of the Journal of the Colorado Dental Association THIS WEEK for the complete Annual Session brochure.  You can also view more online at www.cdaonline.org/annualsession.

Update on Non-Covered Services Bill – The Battle Has Begun

March 9, 2011

Have you taken action? Have you written to your legislators to ask for their support on the bill that would prevent dental insurers from dictating what fees you can charge for non-covered services?

The dental insurance industry has convinced labor unions to join them in writing letters and making calls to kill this bill before it is even introduced.  They have swayed two of our bill co-sponsors already.  A day cannot go by without your legislator receiving encouragement FROM YOU to support this bill.
