Thank you to participating Boulder-area Adopt-a-Smile Dentists! The 10th annual Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Adopt-a-Smile free dental care program took place in Boulder County during the 2011-2012 school year.  Under the leadership of Teresa Marshall, RN, MSN, and Susan Rowley, RN, MS, CPNP, area students received school-based dental screenings and donated dental care from several generous CDA dentists. During the 2011-2012 school year, 17 local dentists provided $20,500 of donated dental care to 27 students!

“I have had the privilege to administer this program for the last 10 years and am so impressed, considering our current economic downturn, that each year our local dentists demonstrate their compassion and generosity by volunteering for this program and donating their services,” said Marshall.

Parents, students, teachers and nurses in the BVSD are sincerely appreciative of the care and generosity of the local dentists, nine of who have participated for all 10 years! Dentists participating in 2011-2012 include:

    Dr. Brandi Bottoms

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Varley, who received the 2012 Bottone Service Award that recognizes an outstanding general dentistry resident.

Dr. Jerry Savory and his staff of Periodontal Patriots organized a float to promote oral health at the Niwot Fourth of July parade. In a great patient education and outreach effort, the Patriots (also known as the "Freedom Flossers”) passed out packages of floss and xylitol chewing gum.  The float was a big hit with the crowd, and especially those individuals standing in the "Interproximal Areas."
