Past COMOM Events

This year's COMOM is preceded by a number of previous annual clinics held in other communities. Past events have been extremely successful and had a positive impact on the oral health of the communities where they were held:

  • 2009: Brighton — 1,291 patients served
  • 2008: Loveland — 1,411 patients served
  • 2007: Alamosa — 1,301 patients served

Through these events, COMOM provided patients with more than $2 million in free dental care.

Brighton

Loveland

The second annual COMOM was held in Loveland, CO, July 17-20, 2008.

In just two clinic days, 1,411 patients were treated with over $1 million in donated dental treatment. COMOM was also powered by more volunteers than ever before with almost 900 total volunteers at COMOM 2008.

Alamosa

The first ever COMOM was held Oct. 18-21 at Adams State College in Alamosa. Nearly 100 dentists, 50 hygienists, 80 dental assistants, 20 lab technicians, 30 students and 200 volunteers built the COMOM army that provided $627,998 of free dental treatment to 1,359 grateful patients.

COMOM was established in 2007 as a program that will travel to an underserved area of the state annually to provide a two-day, large-scale, portable dental clinic. The Alamosa clinic boasted 90 chairs in addition to a lab area that provided removable partial dentures and denture adjustments.

All patients — adults and children — were medically screened and triaged, and provided with a treatment plan that identified their top three oral health needs. COMOM dental volunteers then provided hygiene services, restorative treatment, extensive oral surgery, root canals, pediatric treatment and prosthetic devices based on the treatment plan.

Every volunteer at COMOM could share a different success story from his/her own experience at the event. While the stories vary, they all have the same underlying theme — COMOM not only provided a much-needed service to the San Luis Valley and surrounding communities, but it also changed the lives of both patients and volunteers.
