Dental License Renewal 2012: Available Mid-January, Fees Reduced

December 21, 2011

Please be on the lookout for a yellow license renewal postcard sent to you from the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE). The postcard is your renewal notice and will be sent to the address you have on file with the SBDE. Postcards will be mailed in mid-January, and contain instruction on how to renew your license.

Fees for renewing an active dental license have been reduced to $412 for this two-year renewal cycle. This is a decrease of approximately $200 from the 2010 renewal fee and good news for Colorado dentists.

The dental online license renewal system will be listed among the professions at http://www.dora.state.co.us/registrations/online_main_EC six weeks before the license expiration date, or by Jan. 18, 2012. If you do not have access to the internet, you can renew your license by calling 303-894-2984. All dental licenses expire Feb. 29, 2012, so be sure to complete your renewal by this date. You must maintain an active license in order to practice dentistry or dental hygiene in Colorado.

New this renewal cycle!
Also, please be aware that you must complete a new disclosure form as part of the 2012 license renewal process. A 2010 patient transparency bill required many healthcare professionals, including dentists and dental hygienists, to report practice history information such as disciplinary actions, malpractice settlements, criminal convictions, healthcare related-business and financial associations, and certain employment information during licensure processes. Completion of this health professions profile form is required before you can renew an active, academic or retired dental license. When completing the license renewal process, please be sure to factor in sufficient time to complete this form. Some disclosure questions require documentation to be compiled and submitted if answered affirmatively. To avoid licensure delays due to this process, you can create an account and submit your profile now. To create an account and begin the profile process, visit https://www.dora.state.co.us/pls/cproweb/cpro.logon. The CDA will publish an article in the January CDA Journal with additional information on completing the profile form. The state of Colorado will also offer several webinars to demonstrate the process and answer dentists’ questions.

While the CDA is not responsible for dental licenses and is not directly involved in license renewal, we make every effort to inform members about this process, as licensure is a critical piece of your dental practice.
